Please note that many commercial programs that allow you to "resize and email all in one go" often underestimate the finished image size. Please be careful when using these, as they result in emails that are over the daily limit. In the past, this has been the case with members using Picasa and Outlook Express as well as other programs. We hope you find the following information useful.

Image resizing and attaching to emails - Windows XP
  • If you are using Windows XP, a useful free tool is the Image Resize Powertoy. This is an unofficial add-on from Microsoft employees, and is hosted on the Microsoft website. Download it from here -
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx
or use this direct link (right click, Save Target As)
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe

  • Once installed, the Powertoy will add a resize option to your right click menu, so you can browse for the image you want and then right click to create a smaller copy for emailing. There are options allowing you to choose what size image you would like to make. Note that the Powertoy will create smaller copies of your images by default and not overwrite your original pictures.

  • When you are composing an email, click the Attach button and navigate to find and select the resized image you made. The attachment will be listed at the top of the message under the recipients and will most likely have the size listed also. The total size of images sent each day should be under 300k (not even a little over) ; non daylily images should be under 100k.
